DAP cuts Teresa, Ronnie from Selangor list
KUALA
LUMPUR, April 18 – The DAP has excluded two Selangor executive
councillors from its state line-up in Election 2013, according to the
party’s list of candidates released today.
Teresa Kok who is the senior executive council (exco) member for
investment, trade and industry in Malaysia’s richest state and her
colleague Ronnie Liu, in charge of housing and local government, will
not be defending Kinrara and Pandamaran seats respectively in the May 5
polls.
“Yes, Ronnie dropped,” a party official told The Malaysian Insider when contacted.
“She doesn’t want to contest state,” the insider said, this time
referring to Kok, who is also the incumbent MP for Seputeh, a federal
seat in the neighbouring Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory.
The DAP named Ng Sze Han as Kok’s replacement for Kinrara while Tan Pok Shyong will be fielded in Liu’s place for Pandamaran.
Also cut out from the list is Jenice Lee, the incumbent Teratai
assemblyman, whose replacement is Petaling Jaya City councillor Tiew Way
Keng.
The DAP also sprung a surprise when it named Rajiv Rishyakaran as its man for Bukit Gasing.
The party had previously flagged Kasthuri Rani Patto, the 34-year-old
daughter of the late P. Patto, a DAP strongman, to the urban seat that
had been left vacant following the death of its assemblyman Edward Lee
on December 20, 2011.
