Police record statements on ‘Utusan Malaysia’ article

May 08, 2013
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Police have recorded statements from two individuals regarding yesterday’s Utusan Malaysia front page headline which was claimed to be racist, following a report lodged at the Jalan Travers police station by several individuals.
“The case has been classified under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948. We expect to complete investigations in a week’s time, after which it will be refered to the Attorney-General’s Office.
“We also recorded a statement from Utusan Malaysia,” Kuala Lumpur CID deputy chief ACP Khairi Ahrasa told a press conference here today.
Yesterday, the Utusan Malaysia daily carried a front page headline questioning “Apa lagi Cina mahu?” (What More Do The Chinese Want?) in what was alleged to be an attempt to portray the outcome of the 13th General Election results as a Malay versus Chinese issue.
Meanwhile, he added that Kuala Lumpur police received 476 reports throughout the polls with the highest number 121 being about the indelible ink.
There were 22 reports on voters using other people’s identity cards, which will be investigated under the Election Offences Act 1954, he said.
“Another four complaints were related to voters names not being listed in the electoral rolls. 12 more were about vandalism of banners’ posters and flags throughout the campaign period. We will refer all these cases to the Election Commission,” he said. – Bernama
