Dr M: Umno not behind intrusion
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad
yesterday dismissed claims that Umno was behind the intrusion in Lahad
Datu.
"It is not Umno culture. Why would Umno engineer such a complicated plan, just to see our own people killed?
"It is rubbish. Umno does not have reason to do that," he told a press
conference after a talk session at the Islamic Arts Museum here
yesterday.
On Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) commander Nur Misuari's offer
to negotiate with Malaysia to end the crisis, Dr Mahathir's response
was: "He should stop what he is doing now and surrender. Then, we see if
there is room to negotiate."
Earlier in the talk, entitled "Tun Mahathir's sharing of experience on
Nation building" , the veteran statesmen said there should be a proper
channel of communication between all levels of civil servant, right up
to cabinet level.
"There have been cases where a plan is drafted but fails or get delayed
when it is time to implement it. "This usually happens because the
officer in charge of drafting the plan is not equipped with the proper
knowledge or is unhappy with the way the approval turns out, but lacks
the proper channel to relay it."
To overcome this setback, all levels of civil servants, from young
administrative officers to ministers, should have a proper feedback and
follow-up system.
By implementing such system, setbacks of projects and delays because of red tape, can be prevented, said Dr Mahathir.
At the event Dr Mahathir also launched Utusan Malaysia's assistant
chief editor 1, Datuk Mohd Zaini Hassan's book Cuit: Dilema Melayu
Moden.
