Tarif Elektrik Naik Bukan Salah Kami Kata CEO TNB

TNB: Don’t blame us for tariff hike
BANGI: The electricity tariff hike is a subsidy rationalisation process by the government and has nothing to do with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), said its chief executive officer, (CEO) Azman Mohd.
“The company is merely the collecting agent,” Azman told reporters, after attending the launching ceremony of former TNB chairman Ani Arope’s memoir today.
“The tariff hike has nothing to do with TNB. But, we get blamed for it,” he said. However, he said the hike was necessary for the subsidy rationalisation process by the government.
The country’s electricity tariff has been adjusted to RM0.0499 per kilowatt hour (kWh) and will be in effect come from Jan 1.
Azman said Malaysia’s rating by Standard and Poor depended on how much subsidy the government gave.
“If the rating is high, the country will get loans much easily and harder if it is low.
“It’s not sustenable if the government continues to give subsidies,” he said.
He said the government had no other choice since the country’s deficit was approaching RM70 billion.
“However, they have to realise that with the tariff adjustment, 82% goes to fuel cost which is borne by Petronas and the government.
“We are a capital intensive business which require a lot of infrastructure which need to be replaced.
“As far as we are concerned, our role is minimal and we are not making any profit from this tariff hike,” he said ~ Free Malaysia Today
